Unlocking Ancient Secrets: Geochemical Study Reveals Ceramic Production Techniques in Iran's Kur River Basin

In the Kur River Basin, Iran, pottery styles like Qaleh, Middle Elamite, Shogha, and Taimuran ceramics (from 1600–1300 to 900 BCE), are distinctive. While excavations and historical data have contributed to our knowledge of their origins and distribution at sites like Tall-i Shogha, Tall-i Taimuran, Tall-i Kamin, and Tall-i Qaleh, understanding their production and distribution remains limited. This study investigates thin sections and chemical compositions of samples from six basin sites, illuminating manufacturing processes, provenance, and the relationship between chemical compositions and various aspects of the ceramics.
